Paying for Essure
  Health Fund Coverage
All Australian health insurance companies cover the Essure procedure. The only out-of-pocket expense could be the "gap" fee charged by your gynaecologist.

The procedure is performed in an accredited day surgery/private hospital. Your insurance company should cover your stay. Medicare may also cover part of the gynaecologist's fee.

If your insurance policy has an "excess," or waiting period, you may wish to check first with the fund regarding your level of cover.

Calling Your Health Fund
When you phone your health insurance fund, you will need the following information:
  • The Essure MBS number is: 35633
  • The prostheses code is NG045
If you have any problems with your health insurance fund, please phone the Essure Medical Information Line: 1800 785 336.

No Insurance?
Women with no health insurance can access Essure in over 35 public hospitals throughout Australia. We are constantly working to make Essure available in more public hospitals, so for an up to date list call 1800 785 336 Monday to Friday 9am- 5pm. There no out-of-pocket expenses for Essure when provided to uninsured women in a public hospital.

If you want to choose your own doctor and have the Essure procedure performed in a private hospital, but do not have insurance, the cost is approximately $2,500. This includes the doctor payment, hospital stay, and the Essure micro-inserts.

Finding a Doctor
Once you know your insurance will cover the Essure procedure, you can choose from more than 100 Essure-trained gynaecologists from this Web site. This is the doctor who would perform the Essure procedure. When making an appointment, let the secretary know it is for the Essure procedure.

You will also need a referral to this doctor, so make an appointment with your own general practitioner.
